Text to World- The Raft
The book I am currently reading is "The Raft" by S.A. Bodeen. This book is nautical fiction. In the beginning Robbie is visiting her aunt in Hawaii. Robbie has been visiting her since she was 8 years old. Robbie spends her time shopping, sitting by the pool, eating, reading and binge watching Netflix. There was a phone call that her aunt had to take, Robbie soon later got the news that her aunt had to fly over to L.A. This meant Robbie had to stay in a different state alone when only being 15. When she was by herself she did the usual. Robbie's stomach was empty and she decided to go to a fast food place across the street from her apartment. All went good soon as a man walked up to her. "Lucy!" "Lucy!"he screamed. Robbie thought she was in no harm because her name wasn't Lucy but people would do anything to kidnap. The stranger told Robbie, oh Lucy I told you not to come here she was grabbed by the arm and pulled with great force. Battling to get away she was soon pulled by her braids and pushed back and forth. Her food went everywhere and her shake splattered on the concrete. She ran to safety and locked herself in the apartment. Tears ran down from her face, she knew she had to leave. The next day Robbie packed and booked a last minute flight out to Midway Atoll. The flight was delayed a few hours by the time they took off it was around 12am close to 1. The flight was going swell until the turbulence got worse and worse. Robbie was informed that there was nothing to worry about but nothing was getting better. She was scared but she didn't want to act like a baby. She was given a life vest, from that point on she was in great danger. She was pushed out of the plane screaming and crying for help all that was in sight was the ocean. She knew for sure she was going to die. No one knew she was on the plane, no one knew to come and rescue her.
A current situation in The Raft which relates to real world events is when recently young adults/teens have been getting assaulted. I have been hearing on the news thoughts from parents on the recent scenes that have been caused. In the book Robbie was assaulted by an adult quite physically. Many teenagers have been getting abused in public as well.
If I were in the situation where I had to be evacuated from a plane my first thoughts would be life is over, I am going to die. Especially when all you could see below you was ocean for miles I would be thinking for sure about death. Even though I would have a life jacket it would be no help, none. I would probably get eaten by a shark or drown cause the life jacket can't hold up forever.
