I am reading Among the Betrayed by Margret Peterson Haddix, it is about a society where parents can not have more then two kids. If they do have a third or more kids(also called Shadow kids) and get cough by the Population Police (the police putting the law into work) the child will be killed. The books main character Nina is a third child and was cough by the Population Police. They are using/ torturing her to find stuff out on were more Shadow children are. The guy she liked and kissed, Jason, told the Population Police about her and betrayed her, he was killed by the population Police. The Population Police partnered up with Nina to try to get these three other kids to say they are shadow kids when they are not, the police use her by giving Nina god food and not being so rude and mean to her. One of the guards named Mack was poisoned when Nina was being integrated, he dropped his keys and Nina garbed them and took them, she was trying to get out of her sell and dropped the keys and...
