Text to Text- Who Could That Be at This Hour?
I'm reading Who Could That Be at This Hour? By Lemony Snicket. This book is about Lemony Snicket and S. Theodora Markson, the two main characters in the book. What has happened so far in the book is, Lemony Snicket is eating at a fast food restaurant with his "parents" who I believe are just random people, Theodora then walks in and slips a note to Lemony telling him to come to the bathroom and then sneak out the bathroom window. When Lemony gets out of the bathroom using a ladder that Theodora left him, he finds Theodora waiting outside in her green Roadster. When Lemony got in the car he asked why Theodora needed him and Theodora said "That's the wrong question Snicket" which is actually said a lot in this book in the half that I've read so far. Theodora and Lemony then drive to a town called Staind-By-Sea, which has a sea that used be an actual sea, but all the water which was really ink because it is run by squid but most of the squid have died and the ink is now gone and the sea is empty. You'd think all the trees and stuff would be dead right? No, they're still alive! All the plants adapted to the environment practically right after the ink was drained. The problem is, the statue of the legend. Legend is, there's an older lady who lives in Staind-By-Sea who had a statue, passed down from generation to generation which cost about 1 million dollars because it was made of a black stone that has a carving of the legend on top. Theodora and Lemony are now trying to get the statue back to its rightful owner by trying to trick the family who stole it into giving it to them so they can give it back to the lady.
This reminds me of the series Indiana Jones, because Indiana most of the time has to get a stolen artifact back to its rightful owner. Theodora and Lemony are like Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusader because both Lemony, Theodora and Indiana have to get an artifact back to it's rightful owner.. These two books connect because in Indiana Jones he has to get the Holy Grail back, and in Who Could That Be at This Hour? Lemony and Theodora have to get back the black stone statue to give it to it's rightful owner. That is how Indiana Jones and the Lost Crusader and Who Could That Be at This Hour? connect to each other.
I love the way Lemony Snicket in this book leads everything as a mystery and doesn't make it super obvious. I dislike Theodora though because she is really rude to Lemony. I also noticed that everybody in the town except Theodora and Lemony act really weird, which leads me to think that the old lady and everybody else in the town are planning to kidnap or murder Lemony and Theodora. I cant't wait to get to the next chapters and see how these events unfold.
