Text to Text- Smiles to Go
The book I am currently reading is "Smiles to Go" by Jerry Spinelli. In the book so far the main character Will who's a teenager has his whole life planned, little does he know a proton died. This is a problem because a proton are tiny atomic particles that are building blocks of life and if life dies the world will end in some time. Meanwhile Will has his whole life planned, his marriage and basically who he is going to be become in the future. Will has a little annoying sister named Tabby who bugs and bugs him, it makes his life miserable. Every Monday night he plays monopoly with his friends Mi-Su who he has a crush on and B.T, they switch off at who's house to do it at and who brings the pizza. Each monopoly games ends with B.T spending everything and Mi-Su and Will against each other. Sometimes they don't do game night because there is another special event going on. At the time there was an event about the stars which only happened once a year in the Spring time. Will went with Mi-Su and he was forced to take Tabby. Tabby would do the exact opposite of what Will said to do. Will wanted Tabby to go with Mi-Su so he said stay with me and so Tabby ran off to go look forMi-Su. After that Will would found himself with some peace and quiet looking at the stars, soon would come the horse head constellation what Will has been waiting for. Many thoughts went through his mind at the time. He knew if something were to happen to Tabby he would be in big trouble because she is his responsibility. Will went looking for Tabby and she was with a couple, as he was trying to strangle Tabby while doing that he missed what he wanted to see, the horse head. Will was furious and wanted to leave he went to go look for Mi-Su and caught her kissing B.T. Will didn't even know he liked astronomy. He liked Mi-Su and B.T was his friend, Will felt many mixed emotions in his head.
I can connect Smiles to Go to the book Forever My Girl because this scene reminds me of a similar scene. Both of the main characters have their whole lives planned and then something goes wrong unexpectedly. In this case in "Smiles to Go" a conflict is that the proton died. Then in "Forever My Girl" a conflict that was similar was he had to leave for his career but that just messed up his whole pathway for him and his girlfriend.
I wonder why the main character was worrying about the proton dying. Yes that means Earth won't be immortal but it won't be for millions and millions of years. Long after Will would be gone from the earth. It won't have an effect on Will so it isn't a big deal.
