Text to Self Paint the Wind

I am reading Paint the Wind by Pam Munoz Ryan. This story is about a girl and her parents died so she has to live with her rich grandmother. Sadly her grandmother has a stroke one day and passes away, so she is forced to go live with her mothers side of the family (aka her other grandparents). Her grandmother hated horses and was very rude and mean so she was kinda glad to go live with others but she was still paranoid because of all the punishments she got with her other grandmother. Her mothers side of the family loves horses and even lives on a ranch by the Rocky mountains. Then I read she just woke up and is getting ready to go eat and that's all I've read so far in the book. This character reminds me of my mom as a little girl because one side of her family hates horses and doesn't want anything to do with them. The character also reminds me of me because one side of my family hates horses and the other loves them and also im kinda stuck and confused like the main character. This reminds me at a point in my life were my dad told me horses are not everything and he doesn't help pay for me to ride, but my mom believes different and thinks I should not listen to my dad and keep my dreams strong. I was surprised to see that her grandmother was rich and mean/rude. I also felt very sad when her grandma tried to throw away her mom's picture and horses. I love the way they have 2 of the chapters for the horse she learns to ride, but the horse is wild at the moment I think. I also like the way the author puts a bunch of horse terms in the book like how the horse is born and what the mother does, the coat colors and how the herd/band acts I think it is really attractive in that way. I began to think when is Maya is going to ride and learn all the gates and have fun on the ranch, when I lived on a 'ranch' it was sure fun.  All the parts in this book are realistic in the real world, like how the author explains the horses and how it is possible for this to happen in real life. I wonder why Maya does not really remember her grandparents and why she doesn't want to go play on the ranch, I think maybe because of her grandma and how she treated Maya in her past. I wish we got more of a background of Mayas parents and grandparents.
