Text to self - Holes
I'm reading Holes by Louis Sachar. This book is about Stanley Yelnats IV and how his family thinks they have a curse. This curse is from their no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Build up of this story is when Stanley is walking home from school and a pair of shoes fell from the bridge above him. These shoes were not ordinary shoes, these were name brand shoes, on an auction and the money he got was going to go to homeless kids. These shoes started at the auction for $5000. A patrol car pulled up next and him and asked where he was running, meanwhile the police officer took the shoes and took a call on a radio. Shortly after he arrested Stanley. He chooses to go to a camp at court and the story shows how life is in this camp and what really this camp is for.
One of my connection that I have made is how the book explained how Stanley Yelnats was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I knew someone who went to juvenile prison for a few days for something he did not do. Another connection I made was when it was showing how hard starting digging holes were to Stanley ( something new ). I can relate because when I start a new sport or hobby it is really hard at first. Also I can connect on how X-ray is using Stanley. He uses Stanley by having Stanley taking the blame and giving what he found to him. I have been used as a friend before and you start to realize and you wonder if you want to stop talking to them but you have had a lot of good times with that person. Furthermore I can connect how everybody thinks Zero is stupid because he doesn't talk. Its sometimes similar to me because when I was young people did not think i was smart because my action.
This book is really good and I like it because i can relate to it a lot. I love the word choice the author put in. I don't really like how he doesn't always explain. I was surprise when I read this book. Some events play out differently than in the movie. This book is good for student who hate reading.
