Text to Self- The Girl Who Drank the Moon
I am reading The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. It's about a baby who is left as a sacrifice for the witch. The babies village believed that the witch was evil and if a baby wasn't sacrificed then she would destroy the entire town, but it turns out the witch isn't evil and she thinks that the babies get abandoned by their parents. Every year, around the same time, the witch travels from her home (which she shares with a swamp monster named Glerk and a tiny dragon named Fyrian) to the outside of the village and waits for the baby to arrive. She then takes the baby to another village across the forest. This time the witch accidentally feeds the baby moon light which contains magic, and the witch has to raise the baby herself.
This story reminds me of a time when I judged someone even when I new them. The person I judged was my best friend and I thought she was very nice, until we went to the same school. She lied to her mom saying that I was being a bully to her, even though I wasn't. It broke my heart and I cried all the time. On the last day of school I said goodbye and I haven't seen her since. Even though I already new her I judged her to be a good friend, and she was, but it turned out that she was actually a little mean.
While I was reading my story I began to think about if the little girl in the story ever goes back to her village. I think that she does go back, but later in the story, when she's older. I also wonder why the tiny dragon never grew? I think the tiny dragon never grew because he was born with something that caused him not to grow (in the book he's older than the witch). I was surprised that the Grand Elder takes children as a sacrifice to the witch even though the witch is so nice. I wonder if the Grand Elder knows that the witch is so nice.
