Text to Self 20,000-Leagues Under the Sea

I am reading the book 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne.  20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a book about 3 men who get taken aboard a submarine and live there for months to years.  They hunt underwater, travel the ocean, meet hostiles and sea creature, get wounded, steal treasure, and study the ocean life.  The character that the book is in perspective of is a French speaking man named Monsieur "Professor" Aronnax.  The book starts when talking about a monster in the oceans that have been attacking ships, until we come upon Ned Land's ship in the middle of the ocean.  The mysterious creature then hits his ship making Aronnax and Ned fall into the ocean.  A man who works for Aronnax, Conseil, jumps into the ocean afterwards and saves Aronnax's life and ends up on part of the submarine with Ned.  The men then try to get into the ship, after a while of trying a few men take them into the ship.  This is where the adventure starts with a captain named Nemo.
This book, honestly, was hard to make connections with because of where and when it takes place.  Somehow I connected though, I could connect myself with Aronnax because he's always looking for an adventure and something to write about.  He is one of the only characters who doesn't want to leave the Nautilus besides Captain Nemo; he doesn't want to leave the magical journey that Captain Nemo has brought him.  I could connect my friend Sole to Conseil because Conseil is a really caring character in the book and Sole is a really caring person in real life.  Just like Conseil, Sole would help and follow someone to make sure they were safe.  I could also connect myself with Captain Nemo because he is a crazy and reckless character who is willing to do anything.  I like to adventure and do things that other people might consider absurd or crazy and I totally don't take people hostage like he does.  I guess connecting with this book isn't so hard.
This book made me think a lot and question things.  I think the hero of the story is the Maelstrom that helped Conseil, Ned, and Aronnax escape and the villain was the Nautilus because it crashed into innocent boats and hated humans for no reason.  I kinda wished that Aronnax and his friends didn't escape so the book could be longer and so we could see if Captain Nemo and the Nautilus survived the Maelstrom.  I was surprised when Captain Nemo actually was crying because he cared about his crew members.  The character I dislike the most was Ned because I felt that he was too headstrong.  Ned only wanted his way and was always trying to be the best with his harpoon.  Overall, I thought the book was really good and will hopefully read it again in the future.
